A week after Mumbai police claimed to have busted a rave party at Juhu, Meghwadi cops have arrested a Nigerian national from Jogeshwari (East) and recovered 145 grams of cocaine worth Rs 5 lakh yesterday. Cops suspect that Eugen Okoro (25) may have supplied narcotics to the rave party, which was busted at Oakwood Premier hotel, Juhu.
According to the police, they received a tip-off that a drug deal was scheduled at 2 pm on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road. A team of plain-clothes cops took position near the spot, and based on the description provided by the informer identified the accused when he arrived there.u00a0"We had received a tip-off from our sources, and laid a trap near Lokmanya Tilak Visarjan Talao, Meghwadi. When the accused arrived our sleuths identified him and arrested him," said Gyaneshwar Ganore, police inspector from Meghwadi.u00a0
Gang of peddlers
Police believe that Okoro may be part of the Nigerian gang that supplies drugs to parties across the city. "We are investigating that angle, and are looking in to the matter," said Vishwas Nangre-Patil, additional commissioner of police, Western region.u00a0Four days back MiD DAY had reported about the possible involvement of a Nigerian gang of drug peddlers. It was also reported that cops had detained two Nigerian nationals in the Juhu rave party case.u00a0Cops believe that the drugs at the Juhu party were sourced from Goa, and are now probing whether the dope recovered from Okoro had also been procured from the neighbouring state.u00a0
Local connection
Okoro was living in the city for many years, and was a resident of Mohammed Ali Road, informed a police officer. He has been charged under several sections of the NDPS Act (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) and was presented at the Bandra holiday court. The magistrate asked cops to present the accused in a special court (Sessions Court) today. u00a0
