More than 750 junior doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital went on an indefinite strike to press the state government to fulfill its promise of hiking their stipend.

General Secretary of PMCH Junior Doctors' Association, Dheeraj Kumar said the junior doctors started the strike last night. Despite the assurance given in August, state government had not increased the monthly stipend of the junior doctors from Rs 13,000 per month to Rs 25,000 per month, he said.

"We will continue to stay away from work till the government fulfils its promise," he said. PMCH Superintendent OP Choudhury claimed that the functioning of the hospital remained unaffected.

"All the wards, including emergency are being manned by doctors of the hospital and the functioning of the hospital remains as usual," Choudhury said.
