Kannada Rakshana Vedike (KRV) members attacked two branches of Bank of Maharashtra in the city yesterday.

This comes a day after Shiv Sena activists in Pune had vandalised Ratna theatre which was showing Kannada film Madesha.

Members of Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Ekkikarana Sangha had also torched a KSRTC bus in Latur.

Police lathi-charge

The police managed to avert major damage to bank property by resorting to a lathi-charge.

KRV activists had first staged protests before Bank of Maharashtra branches in Gandhinagar and Basavanagudi.

They threw stones and footwear at the bank and even threw black paint on the banks boards.

The police lathi-charged the activists and arrested them. 30 activists were taken to the Basavanagudi police station and 10 people to Gandhinagar police station.

The activists were then taken to CAR grounds near Mysore Road and detained.

Four injured activists were admitted to Victoria hospital.

Some tempos from Maharashtra were also burnt in Tumkur by KRV activists last week.
