Suresh Kalmadi, the jailed former chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, will be taken to the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here by the end of this week to examine if he suffers from dementia, a prison official said Wednesday

"Kalmadi will be taken to AIIMS by this week, we are waiting to get the neurosurgeon's appointment in AIIMS," Tihar Jail spokesperson Sunil Gupta told IANS.

Kalmadi, 67, who has been lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with corruption in the preparation for the Games, had complained of dizziness, depression and anxiety. He was taken to the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital July 19 and an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan was carried out on him.

"Kalmadi is being provided proper medical aid from the jail premises and outside. Whenever he will be taken to AIIMS, there will be a proper escort and no family member would accompany him," Gupta added.
