When Kuldeep Julka, a property dealer, came to know that some land sharks were trying to grab his plot in Najafgarh, he immediately informed the police, but, perhaps not surprisingly, no action was taken. Just when he thought he was the only victim, he realised there are many who have fallen prey to the land mafia.
"On May 4, I got to know that some people were trying to grab my Number-60 plot in New Gopal Nagar area of Najafgarh and were trying to construct a boundary wall to mark it as their own property. I immediately called the police and they finally managed to come after an hour. The officials after hearing the matter asked us to come to the police station and to show the documents of the property," said Julka.
"Accordingly, we showed the original documents to the police, but the accused, Kishan Dhankat, didn't produce the documents and kept delaying the issue," said Julka, adding that Kishan even threatened him in the presence of ASI, Nand Kishore.
"On Monday, the accused along with three other persons came in a white Swift car (Dl 9C X 1394) and threatened me of dire consequences. They even abused me, after which I filed a complaint with DCP (south-west) K Jagdishan. But the police officials have not yet taken any action in this regard," explained Julka.
Another victim, Harinder Kumar, who is a property dealer, said, "Some goons from the Najafgarh area tried to construct a boundary wall at my plot on Kakrola Road on the night of March 26 to demarcate it as their property. When I reached the spot along with my family members, the accused fled. We approached the police but the perpetrators have not yet been identified."
Julka stated that such incidents have often been reported from Roshan Garden, Kakrola Road, Mahesh Garden, Laxmi Garden and other nearby colonies of Najafgarh area.
A senior police officer said, "We are investigating the case; the accused has been absconding after the incident. We have so far received eight complaints of land grabbing in the last two months by some goons and sometimes by persons known to the victims."
The officer explained the reason behind rise in the number of such incidents. He said, "There are several plots that were bought by people long ago and since then they have been lying vacant. The local goons found these deserted plots an easy target and tried to grab them by using muscle power. But we are investigating these cases and will take action against the persons who are found guilty."
Meanwhile, DCP (south-west) K Jagdishan didn't respond to MiD DAY despite several attempts.
