Kolkata: After a student agitation over fee hike, admission to undergraduate courses in the Scottish Church College was suspended for the day and will resume tomorrow.

"The admission process will resume as scheduled from tomorrow, July 1, 2015. All admissions scheduled to be held on June 30, will be held on July 4 at the same time and venue," a notice put out by the college late in the night said.

Earlier, students protested against a dress code advisory, which had asked girl students not to wear skirts above knee-length. But, the rules have now been relaxed in a new advisory.Hundreds of students from various parts of the state had gathered at the campus here since morning as counselling for admissions was to begin from today.

But, after a meeting between the agitating students and college authorities failed, the admissions were cancelled for the day. "How can the admissions go on when students are blocking the main entrance of the college and stopping guardians from entering? Under such a situation it is not possible to carry on admissions.

We are waiting for the situation to calm down," college rector John Abraham said. He said since other colleges have also started their admission process, they might loose out on some good students. Sayak Banerjee, general secretary of the students union, said they have placed a 14-point agenda before the college management, which include reduction in fees, introduction of sports quota and representation of students union in the college council.
