Before the arrival of monsoon in Konkan region, Konkan Railway (KR) has carried out safety works on the Kolad-Thokur route to avert any possible security incidents.
The 741-km long route of Konkan Railway connects Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka, as it passes through mountainous terrain and crosses rivers, necessitating need for careful attention to train operations.

About 950 personnel would be deployed to patrol the Konkan Railway route during monsoon, a statement said. Round-the-clock patrolling would be carried out in vulnerable areas and stationary watchmen would be deployed for 24 hours at critical locations, it said.
Speed restrictions would be imposed at certain locations, besides attention being paid to drain cleaning, it said. Instructions have been issued to loco drivers to run at a reduced speed of 40 kilometres per hour in case of heavy rainfall when visibility is reduced, it said.
Medical vans for emergency aid and treatment would be available at Ratnagiri and Verna stations, it said.
Emergency Communication (EMC) sockets have been provided at a distance of average one kilometre along the Konkan Railway route, which would enable patrolmen, watchmen and other field maintenance staff to be able to contact the Station Master and Train Controllers in emergency situations, it said.
LED signals are being provided in a phased manner for better signal visibility. The monsoon time-table would be effected from June 10 to October 31, it said.
