Kathak maestro Pandit Chitresh Das and tap dance expert Jason Samuel Smith to stage first performance in city at the festival

It will be a coup of sorts at the Shaniwarwada Dance festival (January 30 and 31).

For the first time in the city, Kathak maestro Pandit Chitresh Das and tap dance expert Jason Samuel Smith will enthrall the audience with their performance.

Dancing together for the last five years, the duo is excited about showcasing the perfect combination of eastern and western culture.

Talking to MiD DAY, Pandit Das said, "Our performance is not a fusion, but a dialogue of rhythm and energy. It is a combination of harmony and joy."

"A true dialogue between two performers cannot be planned; it must be based on deep knowledge of one's self and openness. It requires creating a greater understanding and that is why it is spontaneous and gives a new satisfaction for each performance," he added.

Describing about Nritya Sangam in the festival, noted Kathak maestro Manisha Sathe said that it is an interesting play of similarities and contrasts in musical disciplines (Hindustani and Carnatic) dance.u00a0

"Both Shambhavi Vaze and Parimal Phadke will explore the contrasts and similarities between Kathak and Bharatnatyam," she said.
