BJP candidate Anil Shirole trekked to Sinhagad Fort while Congress’ Vishwajeet Kadam hiked to Pune University campus; AAP’s Subhash Ware took to door-to-door visits

Off to an early start, Pune's BJP Lok Sabha candidate Anil Shirole and Congress contender Vishwajeet Kadam caught up with voters during their morning walk yesterday. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Subhash Ware was invited by a society in Karve Nagar while MNS candidate Deepak Paigude was busy making arrangements for party supremo Raj Thackeray's first ever election rally in the state scheduled for today.

Walking and talking: BJP Lok Sabha candidate Anil Shirole (extreme right) went to Sinhagad Fort yesterday to interact with the voters.

In an attempt to strike a chord with young voters, Shirole decided to visit Sinhagad Fort, a famous trekking destination in Pune. He conversed and interacted with the trekkers during the hour-long climb.

"Shirole caught a PMPML bus from Deccan Gymkhana at 4.45 am along with 10 workers. He began climbing around 5.30 am and continuously interacted with trekkers and passers-by till he reached the top in an hour's time," Sunil Pande, his associate said.

An ardent trekker and member of Pune Mountaineers Association, Jyotikumar Kulkarni, said, "For us, Shirole is not a new face, as he regularly treks. He got a warm welcome from other visitors, as they have never seen a politician climb the fort before. Others just skirt the area in their SUVs."

Punekars who visited University of Pune's (UoP) campus yesterday morning were also treated to a surprise, seeing Congress leader Kadam in his tracksuit. Kadam visited UoP to introduce himself to the voters.

He interacted with senior citizens and women who arrived on campus for their walks.

Girija Shankar Society in Karve Nagar welcomed AAP candidate Subhash Ware, who was invited as part of the ‘know your candidate' initiative.

"The residents of the society called me under the know your candidate initiative. It was a nice conversation and I have received good response here," Ware said. He is stressing on door-to-door visits as part of his ongoing campaign.

MNS workers were hard at work to make sure chief Raj Thackeray's election rally was a success.

So unlike other party candidates, who spent their Sunday morning catching up with voters, Paigude was busy with the rally preparations.

"Paigude was busy preparing for the rally last morning," his personal assistant said.
