Lokayukta police miss the deadline to submit a report before the court on disproportionate assets case against JD(S) supremo's eldest son H D Balakrishne Gowda; judge quips cops given enough documents to substantiate complaint
The Lokayukta special court yesterday lambasted the Lokayukta police for going slow on investigations into the disproportionate assets case against H D Balakrishne Gowda, the eldest son of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda.
The police was supposed to submit a report before the court yesterday, but they turned up empty-handed.

The petitioner has alleged that the assets of Balakrishne Gowda, the eldest son of JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and sibling of H D Kumaraswamy, was worth Rs 10 crore in 2005, but within six years he reportedly amassed property worth over Rs 500 crore. File pics |

When Judge N K Sudindra Rao asked why they were taking so much of time, Lokayukta deputy superintendent Prasanna said that they were in the process of collecting the documents.
The judge then quipped what documents actually were they trying to collect while the petitioner had given all the papers to substantiate his complaint against Balakrishne Gowda.
When Prasanna sought time till October 22; the judge himself extended the deadline till October 26.
S N Balakrishna, a retired engineer with Bhadravathi Iron Ore Company, had filed a petition in the Lokayukta court, accusing Balakrishne Gowda of corruption on 22 September.
Acting on his plea, the court asked the Lokayukta police to conduct investigations into the case and submit a report on October 10.
Political circles are abuzz with speculations that the complainant might be working as a front for Yeddyurappa.

The BJP leader apparently wanted to settle a score with the Gowdas for allegedly instigating lawyers Sirajin Basha and K N Balaraj who prosecuted him after obtaining Governor's sanction.
A city-based lawyer had filed private complaints against former chief minister H D Kumarswamy, Deve Gowda's younger son, and his MLA wife Anitha for graft.
When the couple somehow managed to procure anticipatory bail from the High Court, Balakrishna's petition came as bolt from as the bolt from blue .
Balakrishna Gowda was a Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) officer before he took voluntary retirement in 2005, and the speculations are a rife that he would enter political arena.

He was also declared JD(S) candidate for the Channapatatna bypolls held recently. He is said to have withdrawn his name as Kumaraswamy was opposed to his candidature.
Swelling wealthIn his petition, Balakrishna has alleged that Blakrishne Gowda's assets were worth Rs 10 crore with an annual income of Rs 10 lakh in 2005 and within six years his assets swelled to over Rs 500 crore.
While the police are buying more time to investigate the case, Ashok Kheny, bete noir of Deve Gowda and managing director Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises, has come forward to provide documents to prove Balakrishne Gowda's crime.
Other sideDespite repeated attempts Balakrishne Gowda could not be contacted for comment.
