Supply of world's most sought-after hashish shoots up after years of crackdown, so what rates are sky-high
It's boom time for drug dealers in the city. Premium quality hashish from Malana has been flooding Delhi, Noida
and Gurgaon over the past few months. Even its sky-rocketing rate has failed to curb sales. Emboldened by this sudden surge, peddlers too are taking more risks.
If local drug peddlers are to be believed, the National Capital Region has become a hashish hub with dealers bringing in the drug from Himachal Pradesh, selling it at lucrative prices and even exporting it through Nigerian and Israeli nationals. A Kg of hashish from Malana costs Rs 3 lakh in Delhi. But when it reaches the international market its rate shoots up to Rs 10-12 lakh.
With the trade becoming so lucrative, even peddlers are ready to take more risks. While earlier, customers would have to rummage around slums to make a shady deal, today they can just order it on phone.
"Consumption of Malana hash has increased substantially in the NCR belt. Posh areas in Noida like Sector 18, 15A, 36 and 29 are the main consumer hubs. Its rate has shot up and we are ready to take more risk. Our customers call us on our mobile phones and place the order. Delivery is made somewhere else. We don't stock the drug with us as that can be risky," said a Noida-based drug dealer.
As these dealers are constantly under the police scanner, they keep changing their mobile phone numbers.
"We have to change our mobile numbers every fortnight to evade the police. We maintain a diary of our customers' phone numbers and keep updating them about our new contact details," the dealer said.
