Motorists will no longer be able to speed on the Eastern Freeway, as officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), along with the Traffic department, plan to nab speedsters with the help of speed guns

Speaking to MiD DAY, a senior MMRDA official said, "After the inauguration of the freeway, we have observed that many motorists speed on the stretch, which is a cause for concern, as speeding can cause accidents. In order to control the situation, we have decided to seek help from the traffic department and use speed guns to track those who are driving faster than the prescribed limits. We will also install CCTV cameras soon."

It should be noted that in May, MiD DAY had reported how the Eastern Freeway had no surveillance on the stretch, which could be a problem (‘13-km stretch of Eastern Freeway scheduled to open next week has no CCTVs').

In the report, MiD DAY had highlighted how the freeway had no cameras and experts had said then that it could be disastrous, as motorists would take advantage of the lack of surveillance and cross speed limits, which could lead to accidents.u00a0
