MNS councillor arrested for bribery

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Suresh Awale and two supporters for accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from a resident of Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar


The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Mumbai, arrested Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) councillor Suresh Awale and two of his supporters for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from a resident of ward no 126, Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar (east).

According to an ACB official, the woman was getting her house renovated, and on February 12, Awale's supporters made her stop the work and asked her to meet Awale. When she met him, Awale allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 as a permission token for the renovation.

The next day, she continued with the renovation, but the supporters threatened her that she could not do so without paying the money.

The harassed woman registered a complaint at the ACB office. Yesterday, ACB officials nabbed Vilas Tupe and Ashutosh Kedar red-handed, while accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 from the victim.

Later, the officials also arrested Awale from his office.u00a0
