With celebrities facing flak over the Maggi controversy, former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh today demanded penal action against public figure who endorse products like 'pan masala' and alcohol


New Delhi: With celebrities facing flak over the Maggi controversy, former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh today demanded penal action against public figure who endorse products like 'pan masala' and alcohol.

He also said that celebrities should be more "sensitive" while endorsing food products. "Children like to see uncle Bachchan endorse... These people should be more sensitive to what they endorse, especially food products," said Singh, who was once considered close to the Bachchan family.

Reacting to reported remarks of Law Minister D V Sadanand Gowda, Singh said if celebrities endorsing food products can face action, then people who endorse products such as 'pan masala' and liquor should also face penal action including lodging of FIR.

Maggi was today banned in the national capital for 15 days for containing "excessive lead" and the company has been told to withdraw the entire stock from the city urgently.
