"Shaken not stirred was not just a cool dialogue, it was deliberate because shaken drinks mellow the effect of alcohol," says Arina Suchde. Want more bartending tips? Sign up for her workshop today

"You don't need exotic stuff to make a great cocktail; you just need to get your flavours right. I like to experiment in the kitchen and that's how I come up with some of my best recipes. It's just like cooking," she says.
Suchde, who will hold a bartending workshop today, likes to mix it up with ingredients you wouldn't normally associate with alcoholu00a0-- jam, ketchup and garlic. And that's why the term 'kitchen cocktails' seems best-suited to describe her creations. Take a sip of the Orange Zinger to taste a blend of marmalade, whisky, soda and ginger. "I tried to give an Indian twist to the Bloody Mary. So I used coriander and garlic with the tomato and vodka," says Suchde.
At the workshop, you will be introduced to a bartender's toolsu00a0-- ice bucket, shakers, Hawthone strainer, bar spoon, jigger and a muddler. Suchde will take you through the four main drinksu00a0-- build-up drinks like the Screwdriver, blended or frozen ones like Margaritas, and shaken and stirred drinks (both used in Martinis).
The workshop will also give you tips on working with the four basic spiritsu00a0-- vodka, rum, whisky and tequila.u00a0
