Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has been staying in a multi-storeyed apartment meant for MPs here, has decided to shift to a bungalow now.
Sources in the Urban Development Ministry said she has decided to move to a Type VIII bungalow, the biggest ones meant for cabinet ministers, located on Akbar Road. However, she may have to wait for some time as present occupant Mani Shankar Aiyar who lost the election from Myladuthurai constituency in Tamil Nadu, has sought some time for vacating it.
Banerjee would continue to use her personal car and will not take the official vehicle. While Mamata has been allotted Type VIII bungalow at 14 Akbar Road, Chemicals and Fertiliser Minister M K Azhagiri has been allotted the same type at Duplex Road, the sources said.
Meanwhile, Directorate of Estate has finalised the first list of bungalows to be given to the new ministers. "We have communicated to seven Cabinet ministers and 12 ministers of state about their new ministerial bungalows.
We are in the process of finalising bungalows for other ministers soon," said a source. While all Cabinet ministers are being allocated Type VIII bungalows, ministers of state are given Type VII accommodation in the VIP area of the city.
