Cops say man who hammered wife to death and hanged himself had had been trying hard to lay hands on her ancestral house

Police Inspector Subhash Nikam of the Vishrambaug police station said it wasu00a0clear that Suneel S Bapat (47), who murdered his second wife Anuradha (40), and later hanged himself to death at the couple's Shaniwar Peth home on Sunday, had only been in the relationship so he could lay his hands on her property.

False claims
"Bapat had claimed in his dying declaration that Anuradha was only interested in maintaining a physical relationship with him and was refusing to marry him. He cited this as the motive behind his crime. However, it is clear that Anuradha must have realised that Bapat was a man of whimsical nature, who only wanted to lay his hands on her property," said Nikam.

No love
"Bapat mentioned in his death note that he would have liked to live with her in 4-Senadatta Peth where Anuradha had a property," said Nikam.

Advocate Supriya Kothari, who knew Anuradha as a clerk working at the district court, said, "Anuradha was a very beautiful lady, but her face would always be clouded due to stress. She was particularly worried for her son, who is an SSC student. However, beyond this, Anuradha never shared her problems with anyone."

Dr Sumedha Bhosale, who owns the gym where Anuradha worked a trainer, said, "Her death is a personal loss to me. She used to exerciseu00a0 as it was stress buster for her. It was disturbing when I read reports that described her as Bapat's lover. She was married to him."
