Upset after losing a court battle on an agricultural dispute, a 45-year-old man attempted suicide outside the civil magistrate's court yesterday. Muninanjappa, who hails from Bangalore (rural), had been living at Suttaguntepalya, MICO Layout for some time now.

"On January 29, when his case came up for a final hearing at the court, he was hopeful that the verdict would be in his favour. However, when he learnt that he lost, he went home broken. He was under depression over the past two days, and yesterday, he decided that he would end his life outside the civil magistrate's court," said a police officer.

But thanks to the alert staff, the man was saved. They gave him first aid in the court hall and later transferred him to Bowring Hospital, where he is being treated now. Doctors say he is out of danger now, but is kept under observation.

M Manjunath, his son, said, "We have had an agricultural dispute near the Sarjapur area, and we were confident to win this case. But unfortunately, it was not in our favour, and my father couldn't take it anymore. I can only discuss further after his release from the hospital."

Shivanna, PSI from Bowring Hospital confirmed the attempt and said, "He has been kept under observation and doctors say he is recovering. He had a total breakdown, and consumed poison.u00a0 But fortunately the staff and outpost police transferred him to hospital in time."
