In a fresh round of violence, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters and Police clashed in Jaigaon on Sunday. The protest turned violent at Jaigaon in Alipurduar district when police stopped a rally, injuring many including police personnel.
Police fired rubber bullets and used tear gas to stop the GJM supports The GJM supporters took our rallies at several parts of Darjeeling and other districts of North Bengal carrying black flags in protest against the recent crackdown on pro-Gorkhaland supporters. The protesters demanded the Centre's intervention for the cause of Gorkhaland.
Classes in Siliguri
A prominent boarding school had decided to shift classes X and XII to Siliguri to clear the syllabus backlog.
"We have asked all the students of classes 10 and 12 to report at Siliguri on August 1. We will be holding classes at Matigara, near Siliguri," a spokesperson of Darjeeling North Point School said.
Kurseong-based Himali Boarding School will take a decision on starting classes X and XII at Siliguri after a meeting of the Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee in New Delhi on August 1.
