mid-day's report on February 24 (Mumbai woman dies after falling off horse at Matheran) said since not even an MBBS doctor present in the healthcare centre at Matheran, several hours were wasted before the 32-year-old call centre employee from Kurla could get proper medical attention, which allegedly resulted in her death.
The report further said that the deceased, Neelam, was taken to 100-year-old Bairamjee Jijibhai Hospital in Matheran, the only government hospital there, which only had a BAMS doctor, an Ayurvedic doctor, a nurse, a ward boy and two helping staff.
Following the report, authorities paid attention to the problem and finally the hospital now has an MBBS doctor.
Speaking to mid-day, Dr Mohammed Hussain, the centre's first MBBS doctor, said the renovation of the centre should also be done to provide better facilities. "I did my MBBS from Rajiv Gandhi Medical College, Kalwa, Thane and I graduated in 2015. I am now posted at the Matheran healthcare centre and will provide the best possible treatment to the patients who come here. I personally feel that there is a need to upgrade the infrastructure of this place," Hussain said.
