While all of Mumbai was abuzz with the news of Bal Thackeray's death, his residence was silent as his family members preferred staying indoors. Even the news of his death was announced by Thackeray's doctor, Jalil Parkar, contrary to expectations that a family member would do the job.
According to sources who were present at Matoshree, the family didn't step out. None of them left the second floor, where Thackeray's body was kept. Even the meeting of corporators, which was called by Uddhav, was later addressed by his wife, Rashmi.
A senior corporator present at Matoshree said, "No one has seen Uddhav since this morning. He hasn't come down. He was already tired and today's news has affected him further. He's not well and has been advised rest. He has been staying up for the last two days and is tired."
The family, including Raj Thackeray, his wife Sharmila, Uddhav, his wife Rashmi and their sons Aditya, Tejas, and Jaidev all remained on the second floor of the bungalow.

Meanwhile, a senior Sena leader said, "The family isn't meeting anyone, any guest who comes is greeted by senior Sena leaders. Everyone's depressed, there's nothing that we can see or say now. This is a big loss for us and our party."
Other Sena leaders headed towards the Mayor's bungalow where the party leaders chalked out the plan for Thackeray's last journey from his residence Matoshree to Sena Bhawan, and then to the crematorium.u00a0
