Cool quotient: Lychee crush with pomegranate syrup |
Driving on the new airport road is an adventure in itself. The heat, the dust and the chaotic traffic are not for the faint-hearted. But the hearty and robust Punjabi khana at 9th Mile can put back the fighting spirit in you.
The Royal Orchid has done their best to create a faux dhaba, complete with thatched roof, charpoys and a live kitchen. The add-ons come in the form of air-conditioners and an exotic mocktail menu. We tried lychee crush with pomegranate syrup but found it too sweet.u00a0
Giving the rest of the mocktails a wide berth, we dived straight into the soups and starters. The chicken shorba cleansed the palate with its sharp flavour. Full marks to the chef for turning out toppers like Jalpari Gulnar, jumbo prawns marinated and char grilled in the tandoor, and tandoori babycorn.u00a0
Pudina Gosht, lamb cooked in mint puree and spices, was good but it was the mutton biryani that had us drooling.u00a0
In the true tradition of a Punjabi dhaba, 9th Mile serves a creamy dal makhni. Round off the meal with dahi set in a small matka.
The food is definitely worth traveling all the way to Yelahanka. Coming from someone who thinks the walk from sofa to TV is an arduous trek, this is a real big compliment.
