The workers, most of whom are women, have been protesting for the past five days, alleging that the company management cheated them and transferred them to another unit near Bidadi.
The workers were told that the factory would be closed and that they would be shifted to another unit. "The management told us that will close this unit in a week's time. That was in August. But once we were transferred, they have appointed more people for this unit. They had us transferred to their other unit (No 8) near Bidadi," said Saroja, a worker.
"We were transferred on August 6, and told that we will be getting all the facilities even there. But nothing good has happened for us there. We all want to go back to the old unit. The management behaved badly with us, and few workers were even beaten up," said Chandru, a worker.
"I don't know why the management did this. We have always maintained the targets, and have always maintained the level of quality and production," said Venkatesh, another worker.
Many of them have resigned and have joined other places. "They practically locked us in a godown, with no proper ventilation. We were not even provided basic facilities such as drinking water and toilets. We want justice," Saraswathi, a worker.
No one from the management was available for comment after repeated attempts.
