Police suspect a senior citizen is behind the crime
Sanjay Khandre, an IAS and personal secretary to Aviation minister, Praful Patel, is missing his new Hercules bicycle that he bought recently. The cycle was stolen from his Pandara Road residence a few days ago.
Khandre told MiD DAY that he had bought the cycle for Rs 4,000 about three weeks ago, as he loves cycling.
"Police have failed to trace my cycle and now I will have to buy a new one. I was told that the cops are searching it in nearby scrap shops," said Khandre.
Khandre lives with his wife Swati and two children in the high security area. His wife was the first person to discover the theft. Swati told the police that the cycle was parked inside their house from where it went missing. She went looking for it in the neighbourhood but in vain. Swati said that a guard deployed near their house had seen an aged man roaming around their house, when they were away.
She informed the Tilak Marg police station about the matter. Police immediately lodged an FIR and started investigations as it involved an important official.
"We have questioned the scrap dealers in the area but so far we have not got any clues in the matter. We have also inquired from the guards deployed in the neighbourhood," said a senior police officer.
