Police, chain snatchers exchange gunfire in Greater Noida

A miscreant was killed and a police constable injured after gunfire broke out between police and two persons involved in a chain-snatching on Thursday afternoon.

Police said that two persons had snatched a gold chain from a woman who was on her way home from a local market in Noida Sector-82. "The woman immediately called police and a patrol bike with constable Subhash and Home Guard constable Arun Sharma reached the spot.

Acting on the woman's information, the cops searched the area and found two persons roaming on a otorcycle under suspicious circumstances in Geja village in Sector 82. When the police team signaled them to stop, the duo fled from the spot and took to Noida-Greater Noida expressway.

The police team chased them and during the chase one of the miscreants opened fire. The police returned the fire and one of the miscreants was hit in the stomach. A Home Guard also sustained a bullet injury in his thigh as the miscreants returned the fire in desperation," Deputy SP of the police said.

Both the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. The miscreant was declared brought dead while the Home Guard was treated for the bullet injury.

The district police have announced reward for the two cops who exhibited exemplary courage to nab the criminals. Police said they were investigating into the matter to ascertain the identity of the miscreants.u00a0
"So far we have recovered a pistol and motorbike (bearing registration number DL 7S 4Z 9079) on which the miscreants were travelling," the Dy SP said.u00a0u00a0

Highway robbery

In separate incidents a gang of bikers robbed two people of car, cash and mobile phones on the eight-lane DND flyway between Delhi and Noida late on December 11. The culprits also took away a jacket from one of the victims, saying it was too cold outside.
Manoj Mudgal who works with Jaypee group was heading towards his residence in Delhi on his bike with a friend when four robbers stopped him at gunpoint on the toll road and took away his mobile phone and purse. After he was robbed he moved further on his bike and noticed the same gang trying to overpower another commuter. Manoj immediately accelerated his bike and informed the guards at the end of the toll road. But before the police arrived on the spot the assailants had fled with the car and belongings of the owner. Cops said, the robbers stopped the owner of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, asking for directions.
