Following the incident, a case has been registered at Bandra GRP police station and four people have been detained in the case. According to railway officials, the incident occurred at 2.30 pm when ticket collector Swapnil Pawar (24), apprehended Ganesh Tandle (33), who was caught travelling with an expired railway pass on the foot over bridge.u00a0
The TC took the passenger to the stationmasters' office and was making a challan of Rs 330 against him when within minutes a mob armed with sticks and rods barged in and started breaking windows, chairs and other fixtures in the office. They also physical attacked Pawar. The mob then proceeded to disrupt train services, and stopped the 2.58 Churchgate-bound local from leaving the station.
The police personnel stationed at the station were unable to deal with the situation, and additional police force was called to the spot. Following a lathicharge, the mob dispersed. After a 10-minute delay, train services resumed. Pawar was rushed to a hospital for medical attention, and was discharged after treatment.
Sanjeev Pimple, police officer at Bandra GRP said, "A case has been registered against persons under several sections of rioting, and further investigations are ongoing. Thankfully railway services were not affected." Cops stated that the exact motive for the commotion is yet to be ascertained. u00a0
