The ongoing impasse over the makeshift memorial to Balasaheb Thackeray at his cremation site in Shivaji Park came to a head last night at 9.20 pm when a group of 15-20 Shiv Sena supporters damaged dumpers and trucks at BMC's Worli office.

They also smashed furniture and windows of a security cabin in the premises. After going on a rampage, the attackers put up a poster of Thackeray at the gate.u00a0

The group had received information that BMC workers were going to demolish Thackeray's temporary samadhi at Shivaji Park for Vijay Diwas celebrations scheduled for December 16. The grounds have to be handed over to the Armed Forces for their rehearsals on December 13 and 14.
