Modern college road is dotted with potholes making it difficult for students to commute to and fro, while shopkeepers complain of dipping business
The Modern College road houses an Arts, Science and Commerce College and two schools. There is no storm water drainage system on the right side of the road. Besides the differences between Corporation and MSEDCL over road-digging in monsoon has led to negligence and high voltage electric cables can be seen lying carelessly on this road.
MiD Day assessed three spots on the Modern College Road namely Late MV alias Babasaheb Pradhan Road, water puddles near Police Hospital and BDDS. Reacting to this situation, API Bapu Shinde of Shivajinagar Traffic Division said "Water-logging in the area affects the flow of traffic as this road joins Jangali Maharaj Road and Fergusson College Road, which were turned into one way recently."
PMC assured that the situation would be rectified soon. Junior Engineer Vikrant Kapse said, "I will follow-up this matter with MSEDCL"
Contrary to PMC's claims, Shivajinagar Division Executive Engineer of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd Madukar Bhokare said, "PMC has denied permission for road-digging during monsoon. However there is no dangerous situation as all the cables are covered and in case of tripping the supply of electricity stops.
