Delhi University has decided to restart low-floor DTC bus services in the north campus of the varsity from June 20. These buses will ply on two routes in the university premises from 8:30 am to 3:30pm and will cover all the important spots in the north campus. Earlier, the services were discontinued due to less number of commuters in the route.

Professor JM Khurana, dean, Students Welfare, said: "The buses were taken off the road for 10-15 days but now we have decided to restart the services to help students and parents who are coming here for the admissions."

Fare trouble
"People visiting the university face problems to commute in the campus because cycle rickshaws charge more money than usual during the admission season. The bus services will save them a lot of trouble. The buses will continue to ply in the area even after the colleges reopen for the new session and the services will definitely be better than the last years," he added.

However, the bus serviceu00a0 will not cover IP College for Women as it is situated outside the north campus.
Shubham Singh, a student of DU said: "This would be a big relief for us. The cycle rickshaws are now charging Rs 30-40 for a journey which usually costs Rs 20. The bus service would be a blessing in disguise as it will cost us just Rs 5 to reach our college."

Ratan Singh Randhawa, a parent, was very pleased to hear about the information. He said: "It is not just about money, traveling in bus will definitely save some time andu00a0 make commuting in the campus much easier."

As per university officials, this is being done to help DU admission seekers. The candidates and their parents are advised to use the facility which is available at subsidised rates and avoid parking problems in the campus. The buses would stop at Vishwavidyalaya Metro station as well. Thus, many who take the Metro would also benefit from the services.
