A showroomof VIP bags near the Premier Plaza in Chinchwad was gutted in a blaze yesterday morning. A short circuit was reportedly the cause of the fire, said officials.

The fire at Shree Bhavikakay Sales Agency was reported to the fire brigade around 8.45 am, after which two fire tenders from Pradhikaran and Vallabhnagar fire stations were pressed into action. Bags, furniture, computers and other accessories worth a few lakh rupees were damaged in the fire.

The fire officers said the showroom was locked on Sunday night at the usual closing time. The next morning, when the shopkeepers in the neighbourhood arrived to begin their day, they saw smoke coming out of the showroom. They immediately informed Ravindra Wagh, the owner.

Fire Officer Dnyaneshwar Bhalekar from the Chinchwad fire station said the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of their reaching the spot. "We suspect the fire took place because of a short circuit," said Bhalekar.
