People's Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has questioned the Omar Abdullah-led state government's repeated moves to impose curfew and arrest teenagers in the Kashmir Valley

He expressed these views while addressing a public meeting near Jammu. Tensions have been running high in the valley since the February 9 hanging of Afzal Guru, the Kashmiri native responsible of master-minding a terror strike on parliament on December 13, 2001.

The local authorities have been cracking down on protesters and imposed curfew in several sensitive areas of the valley.u00a0

Sayeed has alleged that the state government continues to arrest innocent people, and has termed these actions as undemocratic. Sayeed asked: "Nowadays, they also arrest children. Who has created this condition?

Did we ever impose curfew? Is there any example? Why do they detain people in jail? If there is freedom and if we believe in a democratic system then who has created this condition?"

Sayeed, who was the state's chief minister between 2002 and 2005, said: "My objective is to make Jammu and Kashmir, including Ladakh, a peaceful and prosperous state." u00a0
