According to media reports, he took an auto for his residence from the airport, and reached home at around 1:10 am, on Monday. The fare was Rs 172, and Chetan gave the driver Rs 200. Apparently, the latter returned only Rs 20 instead of Rs 28. This led to a heated exchange between the two.

Chetan eventually told the driver to keep Rs 8, and started walking towards home. However, at this point, the driver allegedly made a sarcastic remark and said something abusive, which enraged Chetan. He started chasing the auto and also caught hold of an iron rod. However, during the fracas, the auto toppled, and Chetan ended up coming under the vehicle.

Chetan was rushed to Godrej Hospital with the help of his father and a few neighbours, but was declared dead a few hours after his admission.
