A late night raid at a Malad bar ended badly for a crime branch officer as the zonal DCP mistook the former to be a bar employee and slapped him on reaching the location. According to sources, Unit-11 DCP Vikram Deshmane apologised to the inspector, who belongs to the Social Service branch of Mumbai Police, immediately after realising his mistake.
The incident took place at Aruna Bar's and restaurant in the late hours of Wednesday. A source said, "The crime branch officials arrested 16 waitresses, eight female singers and 12 customers during the raid and booked them under IPC Section 294 and various other sections of the Indecent Representation of Women Act. The crime branch inspector was sitting in the reception area when the zonal DCP reached the bar and promptly slapped him, without verifying his identity."
Deshmane reached the bar after he was informed that officials from a different department had raided a bar in his jurisdiction. The source added, "The crime branch inspector was dressed in his uniform and he stood up to salute the senior officer, but Deshmane didn't stop to see all that. After Deshmane was apprised of the situation, he apologised to the inspector saying that he confused him with some bar employee."
