The ambitious monorail project of Mumbai metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is fast moving towards the finish line.

The planning authority gearing up to test the monorail's electrical functions and charging up the test section between GTB Nagar Station to Wadala.

The conductor rails fitted on the monorail concrete guideway beams at about 5.5 metres height between GTB Nagar monorail station to Wadala monorail station and Wadala depot were energised on Wednesday with 750V DC.

A notification to the public has also been issued. The MMRDA has alerted and requested citizens to avoid being in the proximity of these tests.

"These tests are a process towards securing safety certificate for the commissioning of the monorail. A few other tests for signaling, communication, rolling stocks and auto fare collection etc. are also being conducted simultaneously and the Authority has been consulting Singapore's SMRT in this respect", said Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director (PR), MMRDA.

The construction of all the seven stations has also been completed.
