Renowned for conducting cultural programmes in Navi Mumbai, the decade-old Vashi Fine Arts Society (VFAS) has organised a bhajan concert at the Arya Samaj Hall, located behind the Vashi bus depot, on September 29 at 6.30 pm. The society is famous for conducting Carnatic music concerts, Tamil plays and ballet.u00a0
Kannan Iyer, treasurer and one of the programme organisers of VFAS, said a group of five singers, lead by Dr R Ganesh, would be flown in from Chennai to perform the Pracheen Sampradaya Bhajan.
A unique concert
"This is a typical bhajan, wherein the singers starts by invoking Lord Ganesha followed by other devatas and concludes with a bhajan for Lord Hanuman. It's a very set format and is enjoyed by a certain kind of audience.
Ours being a cultural organisation, we organise shows related to dance and drama and dance so that a larger audience could be catered to. But this time we decided to do something unique and different," said Iyer, adding that he was expecting audience turn out for the show to be over 200.
Some four years ago, the VFAS had organised a similar concert for which it had received a favourable response said Iyer. u00a0"Such kind of programmes are organised more by temple authorities rather than societies like us. But when the singers perform, they are known to bring in a lot of peace and solace to the environment." u00a0
