Mynta's catch phrase says it all- Nordic Ice with Indian Spice. And their upcoming show in the city promises to be a gig to watch out for. The group has been around in one form or another since the late 1970s and after first coming to India in 1985, their sound has evolved with a compelling Indian flavour. The band brings you a colorful mix of Indian vocal, African and Latin-American rhythms, Arabic sounds, Swedish Folk music and Cuban violin, together with Indian traditional instruments like the tabla, kanjira, ghatam and tempura.

"It was like love at first sight with Indian percussion and we just kept it as part of our music," recalls band leader Christian Paulin. "We are looking forward very much to playing for our Indian fans," he says.u00a0 Paulin cites particularly the work of their long time collaborator, the famous Fazal Qureshi as being most influential. Their sound is truly global. Its subtleties and influences make it mesmerizing and dreamlike.
Their songs have been influenced particularly by their surrounds, so expect evocations of their native Sweden as well as their much-loved India. "Our music is like creating a curry from many different ingredients," says woodwind specialist Dallas Smith. "And it has been boiling for years," he says. Catch this unusual Jugalbandhi between Vidwan Ganesh of the Ganesh-Kumaresh duo and the well-known Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Known for his experience in the field of Carnatic music Ganesh brings a rich treasure in the form of his dexterity with the violin. Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt will heighten the event's glamour by bringing to it his Mohan Veena.
