Corporators believe that CIDCO is stalling their proposal for 2.5 FSI and wants their interference to be brought to an end in Navi Mumbai

Alleging interference of City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd (CIDCO) in policy decisions of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the corporators of NMMC have demanded the ouster of CIDCO from Navi Mumbai.

NMMC has made a proposal in which it has sought FSI of 2.5 for the redevelopment of homes. However, CIDCO, which has transferred land to NMMC, has been allegedly blocking the proposal from being approved.

Ashok Gawde, deputy mayor, Navi Mumbai under NMMC area, criticised CIDCO for blocking the progress of NMMC and demanded the ouster of CIDCO from Navi Mumbai. "CIDCO is refusing to allot the same FSI for redevelopment projects in the NMMC area.

However, it is set to allot FSI of 2.5 to redevelopment projects in CIDCO areas other than NMMC area.

If CIDCO has handed over the city to NMMC after the development, why is it interfering with NMMC's policy decisions? The time has come to throw CIDCO out of Navi Mumbai or the progress of Navi Mumbai (under NMMC jurisdiction) will be stalled."

However, Vaibhav Gaikwad, corporator of NMMC, was up in arms against the NMMC administration for failing to follow up the matter of FSI of 2.5 for redevelopment projects with the state government.

Gaikwad said, "NMMC submitted the proposal to the urban development department. We heard that CIDCO tried to block the proposal. However, the (NMMC) administration did not take the effort to follow up on the matter with the urban development department. NMMC did not take strong steps to ensure the approval to the proposal of FSI of 2.5."

Meanwhile, the opposition at NMMC pointed fingers at the local Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders for failing to ensure the approval of the proposal despite being in power at NMMC and the state. Bahadur Bist, corporator of Shiv Sena, said, "The guardian minister, member of parliament and member of legislative assembly in Navi Mumbai and Thane are all from NCP, which is also the ruling party at NMMC. However, the issue has been on the backburner for the last 15 years as these leaders have failed to solve the issue."

Mohan Ninawe, public relation officer, CIDCO, said, "The proposal of allotment of FSI of 2.5 is for the homes (in CIDCO areas) to be undertaken for redevelopment in the future so more homes can be built for people under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).u00a0And CIDCO has brought this proposal as per the state government's housing policy, 2007."u00a0
