In a bid to control effluence, State Pollution Control Board chief plans to send the newly elected corporators to E-waste management classes
If the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) chief has his way, the city corporators will be sent back to school soon. A S Sadashivaiah, chairman of SPCB plans to teach netas some green lessons.
Sadashivaiah, who plans to send the newly elected corporators to E-waste management classes, said, "Roping in corporators is the best possible way to root out E-waste problems.
Over 198 corporators will be part of the initiative, which will take off shortly." He added, "Being in a city known as the Silicon Valley, we do have certain responsibilities."

During the sessions, experts, environmentalists and representatives of NGOs will interact with the netas and will impart them with knowledge on E-waste management.

Also, they'll be educated on the harmful effects of E-wastes and the role they can play in reducing the same.

Later, the corporators will be asked work on it in their respective wards and the resources for the same will be funded by SPCB.
The initiative basically aims at educating people's representatives on the gravity of the issue.

"We are working with people from all walks of life that includes bureaucrats, environmentalists, E-waste producers and recyclers. However, the policy makers at the lower level were an exception.

As we know that addressing the issue at ground level can bring in a significant change, we thought of roping the corporators as well," said Sadashivaiah.
Even the corporators feel that the initiative will be of great help in reducing E-waste.

"It's a problem that requires immediate attention and needs to be sorted, " said H Ravindra, corporator of Vijaynagar. He added, "I'll certainly volunteer and hope that others participate in large numbers."
