With a new application, a bunch of Facebook enthusiasts from Delhi allow you to rotate your pictures on the social networking site. But they also take away your personal details
Recently you must have come across posts from facebook users about a link which allows you to rotate your pictures on the social networking site by 360 degrees. Sounds cool doesn't it? The only problem is the link also allows its writer to access your personal information. These writers are reportedly not hackers but social networking enthusiasts.

The team of three social networking enthusiasts (name withheld) from Delhi have written a script which on face appears harmless enough but gives control of your profile to them.u00a0
Talking about the script one of the writers told MiD Day, "The background of this script lies almost 3 years ago in orkut where most people lost their accounts' privacy. But soon orkut changed its codes and this script stopped working on it. But we tried it on facebook, termed the world's safest social networking website. We found a loophole."
"Once a user runs this script and we get an email that is secret and unique for every user, we can update the user's status anytime at our will. Even if the user changes his password/login email/username or any other data, this email address remains same.
So a user can literally do nothing except watching the show," he added. These 'activists' claim if certain more features are added to this script, it can really create havoc on facebook. "We have tried to contact facebook by mail quite a few times but we have not got any response," they said.
'IPO for Facebook' |
Facebook will go the IPO (initial public offering) route when it "makes the most sense," Chris Hughes, its co-founder told a TV channel on Wednesday. Hughes said he thinks facebook can remain a dominant player on the Web. Hughes, who also spearheaded President Obama's campaign on the Internet, said that the non-profit Jumo is a way for everyday people to follow their causes and charities. Listed on the site are: women's issues, HIV-AIDS and homelessness. |
