Stuck for 50 minutes, 17-yr-old is rescued by friend and neighbours
For second year commerce student Bhavika Agarwal, her worst nightmare came true when she got trapped in her building's lift for 50 minutes. The 17-year-old cried for help and made several frantic phone calls before she nearly lost consciousness in the lift.
Bhavika, who hails from Chhattisgarh and studying at Symbiosis College was on her way home to her third floor apartment at Nandan Pride building near Karve Statue at Kothrud when a power failure occurred, which stopped the lift from working. According to fire brigade officials, the incident occurred at 7.50 pm.
Afraid of being stuck in the lift alone in the dark, Bhavika called her roommate Sakshi to help her. She also made a call to the Kothrud fire brigade. Dr Prashant Naik, Tejas Chauhan and Deep Taunk, residents of the building, were the three people who pulled her out of the lift, which was stuck between the first and second floor.
Fire brigade official Pathurkar told MiD DAY that Bhavika was pulled out of the lift by the time they reached the building. "She was gasping heavily for breath and almost lost her consciousness," he said.
Bhavika was taken to a private hospital near Dahanukar colony.u00a0 Bhavika spoke to MiD DAY from the hospital late last night and said, "Thank God, I am perfectly okay. It was really a nightmare for me when I was alone in the dark."
After the incident, the lift was kept closed to investigate if there was any technical snag.
