New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and others on a petition filed by the Uttar Pradesh Government in the 2006 Nithari serial killings case.
The Uttar Pradesh Government has challenged the Allahabad High Court's order commuting convict Surinder Koli's death sentence to life imprisonment on the grounds of delay.
The death sentence of Koli had been commuted to life imprisonment by the Allahabad High Court on the ground of "inordinate delay" in deciding his mercy petition.
Koli was sentenced to death for rape and murder of a girl called Rimpa Haldar from Nithari village in February 2006.
