No change in Jyoti Basu's condition

The condition of veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu, who is battling pneumonia, continues to remain critical on Saturday.

Ninety-five-year-old Basu was kept under full ventilation as a precautionary measure Friday night, though he was put on partial ventilatory support in the daytime, Sushrut Bandopadhyay, who is on the medical board treating the leader at the private AMRI hospital here, told reporters.

Bandopadhyay said Basu was fed through riles tube last night. Presence of highly drug-resistant bacteria has been confirmed during a bronchoscopy.
