After shelling out a whopping Rs 1.57 crore as rent, Noida police has finally decided to buy the cars that they had hired before the Commonwealth Games. The 20 Bolero cars were being used as PCR vans. Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) authority hired these cars on rent for the Noida police. After paying the hefty rent amount, the authorities and the police have mutually decided to scrap the deal and buy new vans.
Noida authorities will now be buying new cars Pic/Rajeev TyagiAfter pondering over a month, the authorities have decided not to renew the contract of the 20 Bolero PCR vans. According to sources, both GNIDA and the police have realised that the cost of buying new vehicles would be much lesser than the rent that has been paid for 10 months.
Interestingly, the market price of one Bolero (non-AC) is around Rs 5.5 lakh. The cost of 20 such vehicles would have been around Rs 1.10 crore only and the GNIDA can continue using them. The officials believe the reason behind rising costs of bill is due to hired drivers. "Since these vehicles and their drivers were technically not part of the district police force, there was hardly any accountability. These drivers seemed to be more interested in stealing fuel. There must be a strategy to check all this in future," said an official.
The rent contract of the vehicles expired on April 15. The 20 Boleros for which GNDA is paying the rent are part of the fleet of 40 Boleros that were sought by Gautambudh Nagar police and distributed equally among Noida and Greater Noida police forces.
