Cops feel explosives were sourced, but bomb was assembled in Pune

While the police is yet to zero in on the suspects behind the German Bakery blast, certain clues about the explosives used have surfaced during the course of investigation.

According to police sources, the explosive material used in the bomb was sourced from a different location.

The bomb was then assembled in Pune.

An IM member was sent to Bhatkal by bus and given a mobile number to call when he reached. The contact would then hand over the explosives to the member, and send him back. Similarly, the circuit was picked up from a different location by another person.
The explosives and the circuit were then put together in the city that was the target.

From Karnataka

"The modus operandi seems similar to the one used by previous Indian Mujahideen members. We have informed the Karnataka police of the developments, as in the previous cases, explosives like RDX and ammonia nitrate were provided by IM handlers in Bhatkal," said an officer on condition of anonymity.

A senior Crime Branch officer from Pune said, "The Gujarat police had also come to Pune on Tuesday and visited the blast site.

"They have shared a lot of information about the IM accused, as all the arrested accused are currently in Ahmedabad. They also shared details about the nature of the bombs."
