In light of the recent demonstrations by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers against the toll plazas in the city, it seems that the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has taken a serious note of the protest.
The authority has now come out with tenders for electronic boards, by which the motorists passing through will get figures about the toll money that has been collected since the booth's inauguration.
Confirming the same, MSRDC Chairman Jaydutt Kshirsagar said, "In the coming three months, around 27 MSRDC toll plazas at various places in the state will get electronic display boards or LED boards."
According to MSRDC, the electronic display boards that will be installed will have updated figures of the toll collected till date and how much more revenue is yet to be gathered by the private contractor operating the toll plaza. Apart from the information of the project, the tax, which is levied on the toll for the motorists, will also be put up on these boards.
An official from MSRDC cited that the cost of installing these electronic boards will either be borne by MSRDC, or the existing private players will be demanded to extend the concession period of toll collection.
Apart from this, all the new toll tenders or bid documents that will be invited in the future will have a clause of having an electronic display board at the site, for which the private contractor will have to bear the cost.
Kshirsagar also said that till date, MSRDC has shut 22 toll collection points at various places in the state where it was found that the collection period had expired and revenues had been recovered.u00a0
