Stating their efforts to fight pollution are in the right direction, Delhi CM seeks support from citizens; unveils blueprint for odd-even scheme
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal yesterday formally unveiled the blueprint for the introduction of the odd-even formula, for vehicles that will ply in the city and those coming in from the National Capital Region (NCR) from January 1 to January 15, 2016.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital last morning, Kejriwal said, "The government alone can't fight pollution; it needs the support of the people too. This initiative by this government has received all approvals. Even the Lieutenant Governor has approved this scheme. A notification will be issued on Monday. Pollution is a major problem and an important issue for all of us. Yesterday [Wednesday] was the most polluted day in Delhi. Our initiatives over the last few days show we are moving in the direction of fighting pollution."
He added that the ambitious odd-even formula will be effective from 8 am to 8 pm and the violators would be fined Rs 2,000. The formula would not be applicable on Sundays.
Ministers to carpool
Sending out a message to people, Kejriwal and his Cabinet have decided to carpool to work during the 15-day implementation of the odd-even formula. The CM said carpooling was the only solution to cope with the formula. "I will share the cars and will do carpooling. It is the most practical thing," he said. Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai said all the Delhi government ministers and officers will follow the scheme from January 1 to January 15.
