BMTC, techie forums and residents' associations offer incentives to make second Bus Day bigger success than first
Here is your chance to fight pollution, traffic congestion, global warming and rising road fatalities. All you have to do is leave your car home and travel by bus on tomorrow (March 4) -- BMTC's second Bus Day.
Bangalore's Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) have joined hands with the city's techie community to make the second Bus Day a bigger success than the first one held on February 4.
Rewards in store
"We want Bus Day to be a success this time. There are incentives in store this time unlike the first Bus Day.
These are mainly to encourage public transport," said S Vishwanath, general secretary, Outer Ring Road Companies Association, (ORRCA)), a forum of over 22 IT companies, including CISCO, ABM and Capgemini.u00a0

Starting from March 4, ORRCA will give away free Vayu Vajra (Volvo buses) passes to winners of the lucky dip to encourage people take BMTC buses.
"We will place boxes in premises of member IT companies on Bus Day. Employees will be asked to drop their bus tickets with their mobile numbers and contact details. BMTC officials will pick 10 tickets out of each box. The lucky winners get to travel by BMTC buses for free for one month," explained Vishwanath.
Six RWA from neighbourhoods like HSR layout, Jayanagar, Iblur, Bellandur and Sarjapur road have joined hands with ORRCA.
"We are urging residents to commute by BMTC buses and have even set up BMTC kiosks in shopping areas, so passes are easily available. This will only makes HSR Layout free of traffic jams and pollution, it will also make commuting safer," said Ashok R, founder AVP solutions and a member of HSR layout RWA.
Added services"We have added services in five corridors of the city like Old Madras road, Bannerghatta road, Old Airport road, Hosur road and Sarjapura road. We have taken into account feedback on the Bus Day held in February and made arrangements to ensure it is a better experience this time," explained KS Vishwanath, the chief traffic manager, Operations, BMTC.
