Speeding tempo driver tries to overtake two bikes, rams vehicle into tree; bikers crushed under tempo

Barely 21 years old, Dehu Road resident Rohit Ramesh Koul met a tragic end on Tuesday night as he was crushed to death under a speeding tempo. The accident occurred near the octroi naka at Nigdi around 10.15p.m when Koul, a computer science student, was returning home after his tuition classes.
According to eyewitnesses, Koul was riding on his motorcycle along the stretch of road when a tempo that was speeding approached him and tried to overtake his bike. But the tempo driver lost control and the vehicle swerved towards the other side of the road and dragged two motorcycles along with it. The tempo crashed into a tree while the bikes were crushed beneath the tempo.
Locals immediately rushed to the spot and pulled out three people who were crushed underneath the tempo and rushed them to Lokmanya Hospital. Koul was declared dead on arrival.
The other two bikers ufffd Ramoshi Anja (40) and Babu Talari (36) ufffd are reported to be in a serious condition with head injuries and admitted to the ICU at Lokmanya hospital and Pimpri's YCM hospital. Three other people, who were travelling in the passenger side of the tempo, also got hurt in the accident and were taken to YCM hospital for treatment.
The tempo driver was handed over to Dehu Road police station by the locals.
