A speeding Maruti Swift crashed into a delivery van at Bhairon road intersection late on Saturday night

A speeding car rammed into a delivery van at the ITO-Tilak Marg intersection late on Saturday night, killing one person and leaving six others injured.

The van carrying three people - identified as Yogesh, Amit and Deepak - collided with the Maruti Swift, killing Yogesh, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh and is survived by his wife and two children. A call was made to the police and those in the van were rushed to Lady Hardinge Hospital.

Deepak, who works in a government dispensary, and Amit are still critical. The van was on its way to Mehrauli from near Delhi High Court after the occupants had attended a religious ceremony.

According to police sources, the Swift carried four people - identified as Hemant, Abhishek, Rohit and Nikki - all youths between 25 and 28 years of age. They were rushed to RML Hospital where Hemant is still undergoing treatment. The rest were moved to another hospital. There is still no confirmation as to whether the youths were under the influence of alcohol, as the medical reports are yet to come and they were declared unfit for interrogation.

"The impact of the collision was so strong that it created a loud noise. Passersby reacted quickly and reported the incident immediately, which resulted in quick action by us. We are still waiting for the medical reports to confirm whether they were under the influence of alcohol." said a police official.
