On Thursday morning, only seven of a total of 152 city councillors arrived on time to take an overview of the Rs 4,150-crore budget for the coming fiscal, announced by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday.
In a special general body (GB) meeting called at 11 am yesterday to make suggestion for and objections to the proposed budget before passing it, only the seven felt the need to arrive on time. As a result Mayor Chanchala Kodre had to adjourn the GB for an hour and a half.
Besides the civic standing committee chairperson Vishal Tambe, six corporators - house leader Subhash Jagtap, BJP's Medha Kulkarni and Vishnu Harihar, Shiv Sena's Sonam Zende and Prashant Badhe and NCP's Vinayak Hanamghar - were present.
"Only those corporators - especially those belonging to the opposition parties - who were not at all satisfied with the budget came on time. Others may have not feel need to attend the GB meeting as they were satisfied," said a distressed Zende.
She added that it was very frustrating that the general body meeting was adjourned because there weren't enough representatives. "I even requested the mayor not to postpone the meeting, as it is very inconvenient."
The meeting was then started at 12.30 pm, and even at this afternoon hour, not all corporators were present.
BJP's Medha Kulkarni said, "At 11 am, only I and Municipal Commissioner Vikas Deshmukh were present in the auditorium. Even the standing committee chairman arrived later. This is unacceptable."
